I have never read Jane Eyre (gasp!), yet I was able to understand many of the allusions to Bronte’s novel. ![]() ![]() The Eyre Affair was a very enjoyable read! Fforde fills each page with literary wit and allusions – a sort of scavenger hunt for book lovers. Now Thursday must find the villain within the pages of this literary masterpiece before the beloved heroine disappears forever. Yet that all changes when Jane Eyre is abducted from the pages of Bronte’s beloved novel. The LiteraTec division is known for receiving relatively benign assignments. Thursday Next, the novel’s heroine, is a SpecOps agent in the LiteraTec division – a group of detectives devoted to investigating literary crimes. The Eyre Affair takes place in Great Britain, in a futuristic 1985. In this novel, his first, Joel Shepherd introduces Cassandra Kresnov, a highly developed, extremely convincing and expensive android. You're not required to think heavy thoughts of deep philosophical import while reading Crossover if you don't want to. Graced with a yen for human art almost as insatiable as her libido, Kresnov first tries to melt anonymously into Tanusha, the sybaritic capital of Callay, a planet of the League's galactic archenemy, the Federation. It's a fascinating and occasionally scary topic. Set in the far future, Australian author Shepherd's energetic debut introduces Cassandra Kresnov, an experimental killer android-with-a-heart who has defected from her League Dark Star special ops assignment. ![]() 6/27/2023 0 Comments One True Thing by Anna Quindlen![]() And I wanted to explore a series of events that would take Ellen there, or at least place her closer to some more balanced sense of what it means to be female. ![]() Of course, as we all know now, what works for so many people is a synthesis, something closer to the center. To me, Kate and Ellen represent the two polar ideas of women that arose at that time: the traditional woman, who embraced life as wife and mother alone and the new woman, who rejected those roles in favor of a life in the world. ![]() ![]() Question: Where did you come up with the idea for such a complex story? How did you do your research on the medical and legal aspects of the novel?Īnna Quindlen: Odd as it may seem to some readers, I wanted to write a novel about the lives of women at the end of the twentieth century, in light of the modern feminist revolution. ![]() 6/27/2023 0 Comments Matt haig the comfort book review![]() ![]() His father said to him, “If we keep going in a straight line we’ll get out of here.” He was correct, a bit of wisdom Haig turned to during his depression when he focused on moving forward: “It is important to remember the bottom of the valley never has the clearest view.
